The NIST Cybersecurity Framework (CSF) is supported by governments and industries worldwide as a recommended baseline for use by any organization, regardless of its sector or size. According to Gartner, the CSF was used by approximately 30% of US organizations and usage is projected to reach 50 percent by the end of 2020.

The Framework focuses on using business drivers to guide cybersecurity activities and considering cybersecurity risks as part of the organization’s risk management processes, which consists of three parts: 1) the Framework Core, 2) the Implementation Tiers, and 3) the Framework Profiles.

Many organizations utilize the NIST CSF as a way to evaluate and assess current cybersecurity capabilities for the five core cybersecurity functions – IDENTIFY, PROTECT, DETECT, RESPOND, RECOVER. The results of an assessment against the CSF provide actionable steps that your organization can take to improve your cybersecurity maturity and posture.
